Lookeen GmbH is an owner-managed and independent company based in Karlsruhe, Germany. For over 20 years, Lookeen has established itself as a leading solution in the field of full-text search. Our software is used by more than 5 million users in over 100 countries and across a variety of industries.
Our goal is to set new standards in full-text search – in terms of completeness, accuracy, and speed. Lookeen provides a user-friendly search interface that can be implemented with minimal installation effort. After two decades of continuous innovation, we have completely redeveloped our search engine to function reliably in any system environment, combining the performance of a leading enterprise search solution with the simplicity of a desktop application.
As a self-financed and profitable company, our independence gives us the flexibility to focus entirely on the needs of our customers and continuously invest in the further development of our products.

Martin Welker
CEO
After earning his degree in computer science at the University of Karlsruhe, Martin Welker began his career in Silicon Valley and San Francisco. There, he gained valuable experience in the technology industry before returning to Germany in 2003 to found Axonic Informationssysteme GmbH.
As CEO, Martin Welker is responsible for the strategic direction of Lookeen. Under his leadership, the company has significantly expanded its reach and, with its Lookeen search software, has gained over 50,000 customers in more than 150 countries, including many companies from the prestigious Forbes 500 list.
In addition to his work as CEO, Martin Welker is a recognized expert in search technology and has published numerous technical articles on software development. His contributions and knowledge have earned him international recognition in the tech world.
Alexander Kainz
CTO
Alexander Kainz studied computer science at the University of Applied Sciences in Regensburg and subsequently gained several years of professional experience in San Francisco, where he met Martin Welker. After his time in the USA, he worked as a consultant for various large banks, expanding his expertise in the IT and software industry. Since his appointment as CTO of Lookeen in 2021, Alexander Kainz has played a key role in the restructuring and further development of the company’s technological infrastructure.
Peter Oehler
COO
Peter Oehler began his career in 1998 while studying at the University of Karlsruhe. He started at a leading international fitness company, where he was responsible for establishing the IT department. This early responsibility laid the foundation for his further career development.
After his time at the fitness company, he joined CDV Software Entertainment AG, where he led the development of the quality assurance (QA) and support departments as Director. His successful work in these areas eventually led to his move to Axonic Informationssysteme GmbH at the end of 2006.
As COO at Lookeen, Peter Oehler is responsible for sales and marketing, significantly contributing to the company’s business development and international success.

For those who prefer maximum control, we also offer the option to fully disable this interface at any time and continue using our proven local solution without external connections. This way, you retain full flexibility-fully tailored to your individual security requirements.
